I need a new host
My sites are currently hosted with 1and1 which is pretty cheap when it comes to hosting, but their reliability is not the best. I’ve experienced very laggy servers and downtime with them lately. Anybody out there have a good managed or dedicated host they can recommend?

I’m with 1and1 for my servers - not experiencing any problems currently after the move to the new server farm… however, one of my servers was down for 27 hours after the move. They credited me back a month of service - but honestly, that’s not really that big of a deal … my customers don’t ever want to be offline!!
At any rate - I have worked with the following provider in the past:

Their rates are fantasic, they are Dallas, TX based and I’ve been inside of their Co-Lo. The owner is a nice guy and has many large clients. He’s provided remote serial console (like 1and1’s recovery tool) and there’s remote reboot / power off options that he has available too.
The prices are seriously good and one thing I like is that he is upfront about bandwidth. With 1and1.com you pay for the bandwidth that they give all of their customers. With GlobalCon.net, they have a few different bandwidth options.
They are my best bet for when I make my next ‘move’ with 1and1.
Also, 1and1.com now are allowing transferring of domains between accounts without charging now - so if you have any domain names with them, you can move them all to an Instant Domain package. For other 1and1 users’ opinions - you can take a look at www.1and1faq.com
?why would you don’t use media temple, i’ve used them for years with no issue?
Dreamhost is by far the best host I’ve used. I’ve jumped around over the past 5 years to different hosts and Dreamhost is the best I’ve experienced.
