TwitRep.ly brings comments to your Tweets.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 6, 2009

TwitRep.ly, founded in early September 2009 by two software engineers, supplements the Twitter service by adding comments and the opportunity for lively discussion on Twitter.

The web site works by allowing users to sign in using their Twitter username and then posting Topics (or Tweets). The Tweet is automatically posted to their Twitter page with a short URL linking back to their topic so a discussion can take place.

The founders, both active users on Twitter, disliked not being able to have a conversation on a specific topic with several Twitter users. Similar to Facebook’s “comment” feature under a status update, TwitRep.ly provides this desired feature to enhance the value of Twitter status updates. Twitter enthusiasts who have long wished for an alternative to the @reply, or prefer a public commenting area, will find the newly launched site to be a must-have Twitter service.

The developers said they have many new features up their sleeves, including private notifications, posting settings, and account features. Currently built-in to the system is the ability to monitor replies and responses to topics, automatically post new topics and replies to the user’s Twitter page with their own URL for discussions, and a log that displays all comments on the site.

“We’re working on the site night and day based on the feedback we’ve been receiving. We’ve had a great response so far and we’re happy fellow Twitter users find the service useful,” one of the founders stated, “We’re just happy to supplement an already great site and idea.”

Geekpreneur, the popular business blog for geeks, has published a free, 48-page eBook providing an introduction to Twitter and its applications for online businesses. The eBook is available for download at www.Geekpreneur.com/twitter-ebook.

“Twitter has gotten a lot of hype, but we think it’s actually underrated as a business tool — which is why we wrote this eBook,” said Sabrina of the Geekpreneur team, which includes Web designers, programmers and business owners who provide news and tips daily for online entrepreneurs at www.Geekpreneur.com.

“Our eBook is written for new users, but we think advanced Twitter users can get some benefit from it as well — by helping to convert friends and colleagues who haven’t yet signed up,” added Geekpreneur contributor Dean. “Many people are simply unaware of the business and marketing applications of Twitter.”

Among the topics discussed in the eBook:

Why you need to join Twitter right now

How to use Twitter as a mini-blog

Applying Twitter to grow your online business

    Generating Web traffic with Twitter

Using Twitter as a linking tool

Using Twitter to build your brand

Making the most of Twitter tools

While the eBook is focused on applications and benefits for online businesses, the Geekpreneur team predicts Twitter will be major force for all businesses in the near future.

“We’re really just scratching the surface,” said Sabrina. “Twitter can be a powerful tool for work groups seeking live interaction. Sales and marketing, IT, field service, affiliate relationships — wherever businesses can benefit from mass collaboration, Twitter can be a valuable tool with little or no new infrastructure investment.”

CBS News San Franciso/Bay Area: segment on Twitter

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 6, 2009

Twitter is fast becoming the most popular social media site on the Internet today. Many Twitter users interact by sharing URLs to interesting web pages in their posts called tweets. Twitter, however, offers no method for users to save the information after a tweet. Krumlr allows Twitter users to save and keep sharing the URLs posted on Twitter.

“I am really impressed with the quality of content I find while on Twitter,” says Krumlr creator Pete Wingard. “The content on most social bookmarking sites doesn’t compare to Twitter’s and Krumlr hopes to capture it.”

Since the Tweets are limited to 140 characters, many of these URLs must be shrunk in size before posting to Twitter. Web sites like tinyURL can shrink URLs but this requires the Twitter user to cut and paste URLs several times. Krumlr (krumlr.com) allows users to tweet and bookmark without cutting and pasting.

Krumlr can tweet and bookmark any page with only two clicks once the user signs up and adds the Krumlr toolbar link to the browser. The bookmark, also called a page krum, is then saved to the users Krumlr profile after the tweet. This gives the Twitter user additional social bookmarking tools.

Other Krumlr (http://krumlr.com) features: Users can follow or be followed by any number of other users like on Twitter. The page krums are also shared virally. Page krums from those followed appear chronologically on the user page to review and share with their followers. The more popular page krums appear on the front page for everyone. Krumlr also makes it easy to find interesting people to follow and then tweet about their page krums to Twitter.

Krumlr is the creation of Pete Wingard, a web developer from Atlanta, GA. You may follow Pete on Twitter at http://twitter.com/netlatch or contact him through Yougler at http://yougler.com/pete.

Hi,

im looking for a twitter client, which shows tweets in fullscreen. It should be able to run on a MediaCenter. So the text of the tweets should still be big enough to read from a distance. I had a look on the net but could not find, what i am looking for. Any advice?

Dr. Rankin, professor of History at UT Dallas, wanted to know how to reach more students and involve more people in class discussions both in and out of the classroom. She had heard of Twitter… She collaborated with the UT Dallas, Arts and Technology – Emerging Media and Communications (EMAC) www.emac.utdallas.edu faculty and as a Graduate student in EMAC I assisted her in her experiment. I documented the experiment for a digital video class with Professor Dean Terry, @therefore, and assisted Dr. Rankin in the experiment as a part of my collaboration and content creation course with Dan Langendor, @dlangendorf. It was a real pleasure to work with Dr. Rankin – a forward-thinking professor open to the intelligent use of new media.
