Announcing a new project soon

I’ve been working on a project that I’ve kept under wraps now for the last few months. It is geared towards small to medium size business. One niche that I know it will help will be web development & design companies, since I wrote it specifically to fill a need I was having.

I will post more details about it soon on nusoni’s blog. I just wanted to get your attention.

Post Photos from your Phone to Twitter with TwitPic

The biggest feature request for TwitPic has been the ability to post pictures from your phone to Twitter. Well as of yesterday, you now have that ability.

Just login to TwitPic, click on Settings and you are presented with your own unique TwitPic email address that you can post images to from your phone or from any capable email client.

TwitPic - Share photos on twitter from your phone

Traffic and image posts have spiked and already this new feature has been a great success.

Share Photos on Twitter with TwitPic

TwitPic is a service that allows you to share & comment on photos with the increasingly popular service, Twitter.

TwitPic

How it works
From TwitPic’s interface you can login to your Twitter account, upload an image, & post a status update to twitter with a link to the photo, along with a description.

Another feature is the ability to comment on photos uploaded to TwitPic. The comment is also automatically added as a status update to your twitter profile like the screen shot below shows:

TwitPic

TwitPic was born out of my need to be able to share & comment on photos easily with twitter. I developed it over a weekend, from concept to working site. As always I’m open to feature suggestions.

EchoPic Needs Moderators

The full post can be viewed here.

Our goal at EchoPic is to provide a safe place for people to share their images on the web. We want a website where families can come and feel safe knowing they are not going to be presented with offensive content and where parents can feel secure knowing their children are viewing content that is safe for them.

Sadly with the way the internet is and the amount of junk that is out there it takes man power to moderate the content that comes into EchoPic to keep the site free of pornography.

If you would like to help EchoPic with moderating content please contact me at info@echopic.com. We are looking for people who are willing to donate their time to help keep EchoPic clean and safe for everyone of all ages.

EchoPic Two Months Later

I’ve posted some numbers about EchoPic on the site’s new blog. Below is an excerpt.

Today is EchoPic’s 2 month anniversary. I want to say thanks to everyone who has been using EchoPic and helping the service grow. When I launched EchoPic I didn’t expect it to grow like it has. It was just a fun side project. Well today, 2 months later EchoPic has become more than what it was intended to be.

Some Stats:

* Over 100,000 unique visitors a month
* Traffic spikes of up to 30,000 visitors per day
* Almost 10,000 views per day to hot linked images (these are not counted in monthly visitor stats

Web App Lessons: Provide a Delete Account Option

I consider myself an early adopter when it comes to new web applications or online technologies. Once a new site of interest is launched I am usually quick to sign up and try it out. The majority of the time I’ll lose interest in the site and I’ll delete my account so I don’t have unused account information lingering around the net.

Enter the problem
When it comes time that I want to delete my account because of some reason that I don’t like the site or no longer find a use for it, it requires you to email them to delete your account. This is annoying. Is it really that hard to email the site? No, but its still annoying.

Why its bad for the user
Frankly I don’t trust emailing some unknown person who is supposedly “handling” all incoming email to delete my account when I request it. Has it worked for me before? Yes. Has it not worked for me before? Yes. Sometimes I never hear back from the site that they deleted my account and I can still login to my account and all my information is still there. When the functionality to delete your account from the site’s settings or account page it gives the user immediate gratification for their request. Even though your still losing the user, you made the ending experience for them easier and in their mind better. End it on a good note.

Why its good for the website
It requires more work for a website’s operator to read and process all requests for account removal. Work = Time = Money = Less time fragging people in Halo half-way across the world and that’s just not right. Just take the few more hours of programming to provide a delete option for users to remove their accounts. It will be worth it.

Indiefy Has Launched

Indiefy Indiefy has launched in beta and registration is open to music lovers and artists. For those of you who don’t know, Indiefy is an online venue for Musicians / Bands to sell their music online. Artists keep the rights and set the price of their music. For listeners, when you purchase a song from an artist on Indiefy, you will have access to that song for as long as the artist keeps it on the site.

Social interaction between listeners and artists is currently in the works for the next feature set.

Indiefy is gaining ground everyday. Signup and help it grow.

Indiefy is on MySpace

Yes I know…a horrible day right? Wrong. I may have wrote a post about how MySpace is a Social Networking STD, but I also said “yet its huge and used by millions”.

MySpace is a great way to gain exposure and if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Use MySpace at what it does best…social networking. Not because its “the best” as far as design goes, but because a boat load of people use it.

Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/indiefy and add me as a friend!

Free Book From 37signals

37signals The Chicago based company 37signals has released their popular book Getting Real in an online format available to everyone for free. The book was originally released earlier this year in PDF format for $19. A paperback version is also now available.

I purchased this book a few months ago and I would recommend it to everyone. Its not just for internet based companies, it can apply to anyone for any task. Basically the book teaches you how to cut the bull and get to the point and to just do it.
